Approach / Methodology
Soo Chye serves both corporate (small medium enterprises, listed companies and financial institutions) and individual clients. In relation to businesses, he believes that for most businesses to thrive and be sustainable in the long term, they must have a presence beyond Singapore.
In this regard, he actively establishes working relationship with counterparties in the ASEAN, Australia, Greater China, South India, Europe and the United States. It is in this spirit that he constantly seeks to keep himself abreast of key trends and developments in business both in and beyond Singapore in his various areas of practice.
Soo Chye has been keenly observing the advances of and the disruption caused by technology both for the legal profession and the businesses of his clients since the “dot-com” days. These advances in technology (in particular in the last decade) have also provided numerous opportunities for the legal profession and clients. Soo Chye is passionate about working with clients as they harness the opportunities to re-invent and refresh their businesses and expand into new markets. In this regard, he also actively advises clients on the issues that may arise particularly in the area of data security and works with various partners to deliver a wholistic solution for clients as they harness technology to expand their markets beyond physical territorial boundaries.
Another area close to his heart is the issue of succession planning – not just for the family wealth but also for businesses. The issues faced by many clients in this area are often cross-jurisdictional and often complex as they often involve shifts in paradigms for the business and asset owners. Soo Chye spends much time addressing the concerns and aims of the families. Often, in the course of these discussions, he will also lead clients to consider and develop their family aims and vision. From this, he assists clients in the steps and structures necessary to be put in place to achieve the vision.
Soo Chye also serves various non-profit and welfare organisations, both as a board member and legal advisor.
