Sujesh brings to his corporate practice a holistic perspective in advising clients on their legal rights and risks. He has good experience in corporate and commercial transactions and has a strong background in dispute resolution.
Sujesh’s corporate and commercial practice includes advising companies on a variety of corporate and commercial matters. These include matters dealing with employment law, data privacy, insolvency, compliance and transactional matters.
In the private client space, Sujesh has advised high net worth individuals on succession planning including structuring complex family trusts and wills.
Sujesh’s experience also includes a broad spectrum of litigation and international arbitration matters. Sujesh has assisted with trials and handled interlocutory applications in both the State Courts and High Court of Singapore.
In addition, Sujesh has experience handling and assisting in criminal defence matters at all levels of the Singapore Courts. These matters include white-collar crime, drug related offences and other offences under the Penal Code.
Sujesh is passionate about pro bono legal work and believes that no accused person should be denied access to legal advice when needed.
Notable cases include:
Charles Lim Teng Siang and another v Hong Choon Hau and another [2021] SGCA 43
Assisted in the representation of the Respondents in this landmark contract law matter before the Court of Appeal. After hearing parties, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal, with costs awarded to the Respondents. One of the main issues considered by the five-judge coram was the effect of no oral modification clauses (NOM clauses). The Court of Appeal expressed that NOM clauses raise a rebuttable presumption that in the absence of an agreement in writing, there would be no variation.
Lau Jian Bang v Public Prosecutor [2019] SGHC 254
Accused person was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment for offences under Section 8 of the Remote Gambling Act (“RGA”) in the State Courts. Assisted with the accused person’s appeal on sentence. On appeal, the High Court allowed the appeal and substituted the imprisonment sentence with the maximum fine of $5,000. In the decision, the High Court formulated and applied a sentencing framework for first time offenders convicted under Section 8 of the RGA.
Public Prosecutor v Loo Boon Chong (DAC-915065-2020 & Others)
Accused person, linked to the 2019 Orchard Towers murder, was charged for disposing of a bloodstained t-shirt worn by the alleged murderer and for consorting with an individual that the accused person knew to be in the unlawful possession of a karambit knife. Assisted in drafting representations to the Prosecution and the preparation of the mitigation plea of the accused person. The accused person was sentenced to 5 months’ imprisonment.
