Wee Swee Teow LLP is proud to celebrate 111 years of legal excellence

Wee Swee Teow LLP proudly celebrated our 111th anniversary on 11 January 2023.

Our anniversary dinner was held at Goodwood Park Hotel and we commemorated 111 years of legal excellence, surrounded by our clients, business partners and supporters. Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law, Mr Edwin Tong, S.C., and the honourable Attorney General Lucien Wong, S.C graced our event.

Founded by the late Wee Swee Teow in 1912, WST is the oldest existing homegrown law firm in Singapore and is one of the first law firms in Singapore with an Asian name.

Over the past eleven decades, we have evolved our services with the times while staying rooted to our values. We have achieved this milestone anniversary by keeping to our guiding principles of having a global mindset and striving for the growth and good of all our stakeholders.

Today, WST is a full-service firm whose practice groups cover corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution, family law, infrastructure, construction and energy, real estate as well as regulatory work. Our firm, which was listed among Straits Times’ best law firms of 2023, is also a proud member of Mackrell International, a leading network of law firms across 60 countries.

Speaking at our anniversary dinner, Chairman Mr Giam Chin Toon, S.C. said, “111 years of continuous business is not an easy feat. It requires thought on how to adapt to changing circumstances, exceptional leadership and passion to always be excellent.”

Echoing his sentiment, Managing Partner Mr Lee Soo Chye said, “That we are celebrating our 111 Anniversary is a tribute and testament to the good work of our leaders through the years, namely our founder, Wee Swee Teow, and our past managing partners, Wee Eng Lock, Po Guan Hock, TPB Menon, and Giam Chin Toon, S.C.

“We are thankful for the values, including the traits of determination and resilience that they have passed down to each subsequent generation through the years.”

Asserting that his vision is for WST is for it to be recognized as a firm that is always relevant to clients, well-regarded by peers and one that continues to cultivate the trust and respect it has earned over more than a century, Mr Lee said:

“We recognise the need to embrace a forward-looking mindset and we are not afraid to accept new challenges, as the past 111 years have shown. We believe in building our resilience and look, with fervour, to constantly grow, develop, and evolve, in order to stay relevant in an increasingly interconnected and ever-changing world.”

We would like to thank all of our lawyers, colleagues, clients, business partners and friends for their unflagging support over the past eleven decades. We look forward to your continued support to reach greater heights.
